TOWARDS THE PERFECT ANDROGEN: A CUSTOMIZED APPROACH TO TREATMENT OPTIONS

Dr. Bruce Biundo,

Pharmacy Consultant,

Professional Compounding Centres of America, USA .

This presentation will discuss choosing the right treatment for the right patient.. Many clinicians seem to make treatment choices by looking at available commercial products, then attempting  to fit the patient’s hormone supplementation with those products.  In reality, it is feasible and attractive  to design a treatment protocol that fits the needs of an individual patient. All patients do not respond to the same dose, nor to the same dosage form.

In this presentation, the various treatment options will be discussed, along with means of customizing the treatment for the patient. Today, many pharmacists who are knowledgeable in pharmacokinetics are learning about screenings, patient referrals to physicians, and treatment options for andropausal men. A new model for collaborative relationships between physicians and pharmacists is coming into existence, and, as a result, many patients are being successfully treated with dosage forms and doses that are individually determined. Buccal linguets, sublingual tablets and drops, injections, pellets, topical creams, gels and lotions are some of the ways that support individual dosage form and dose titration.

In addition to testosterone, the use of aromatase inhibitors, prohormones, and nutritional support will be discussed.
